GridPoint Sourcing notes on comparable building quotes

These notes explain how to turn a brand search into a specification. They are not reviews of another company and they do not score a plant the desk has not been shown.

What a reading note will not settle

A note can show which fields belong in a request: use, module length and width, floor-to-ceiling height, transport envelope, design live load, design dead load, wind speed, ground snow load, seismic design category, quantity, and destination. It cannot decide that a module meets the authority having jurisdiction. That acceptance sits with the project professionals and the permit review.

Shell, delivered, installed, and turnkey remain different commercial objects. If a note discusses price, it discusses those lines. Freight and unloading change with the destination even when the module box is unchanged. A volumetric unit and a panelized pack can share a floor area and still fail different gates.

Folding units add a closed size that a steel-building photo does not show. Rigid frames add clear span, eave height, purlin spacing, and girt spacing. Cold-formed members and hot-rolled frames should not be blended into one weight. HUD Code, IBC, and a state modular program answer different occupancy questions, so a note that names one of them should say why that path was chosen.

Use the notes beside the building options and the requirement form. Optional budget and supplier preference stay buyer notes. They are not factory ratings and they are not quotations. If a load is unknown, write unknown. A blank is more useful than a borrowed value from a different county or from a search string that only sounds geographic.
